My Origin Story
I'm not a software engineer anymore.
What is this?
This is a newsletter that will help people learn how to be a content creator. I will write everything I learned on every platform over the last 4 years.
This includes:
Notes I take studying content.
Strategies that worked for me and anyone else.
Content stories from other creators and their thoughts on content creation.
If you found this newsletter, odds are you probably found it linked from one of my blogs: Youtube, Medium, or LinkedIn (probably this one).
I talk a lot about engineering, sometimes a little too much. It was a great career for me but I’ve moved on to focus on what I’m really passionate about.
Making content.
You lost passion for engineering?
Yes. I talk about it in all of my blogs but engineering was always a skill I was familiar with but not in love with.
There’s a lot of advice I can share about getting an interview, getting promoted, and doing well at work. But it gets harder talking about it for 4 years.
Especially after quitting Google.
Why go after passion?
If you have all your needs met, going after your passions will bring flow and greater joy to your life.
It’s what drives founders to build start-ups. It’s what encourages authors to write books.
When you’re passionate about what you do, you want to keep learning about it, even if you don’t have to.
That was never my relationship with software engineering. I was curious why some engineers grow faster than others. Maybe they’re smarter, maybe they work harder.
Maybe they just enjoy it more.
The engineers I met who got promoted faster than anyone else were people who loved learning about their craft more than anyone else.
That intense feeling was what I wanted to find for myself. But I knew I didn’t have that relationship with software engineering.
Why Content?
For people who don’t know, content just means posting something to get someone’s attention (mostly on the internet). I enjoy making content more than being a software engineer.
I would imagine most people reading this can’t relate. But for me growing up, my dad was a photographer so he always took photos of me whenever he had the chance and shared them with everyone.
Even if they weren’t the most flattering photos.
But the Engineering Salary!
Software engineering is an amazing job. I only have respect for people working in the field.
But the job is not for everyone. It gave me a lifestyle I was comfortable with but I always felt like doing something else.
It’s 100% true that not everyone has the chance to go after something they love. It’s hard to figure out and life priorities means making money to survive first.
But if you have the chance to do it, go for it.
Getting you started with your origin story
The biggest blocker for anyone on LinkedIn or any social media is getting started. It sounds simple but it’s scary to press the “post” button.
Fears that people are judging you or you’re not qualified enough to say what you’re saying.
My simple advice to that is to post it anyways and It’s going to be horrible. But if you have the courage to post again, you’ll iterate on each and every post.
4 years later you might find yourself loving the craft more than your day job.
At least, that’s my origin story.

You have no idea how much this content resonates with me!! I also quit Google (trying to leave tech) but came back to SWE few years later (golden handcuffs) and am about to leave my current job in January. Every point you made was like, "yes!" haha. Thank you!!
I really don’t get why great engineers who works at FAANG companies quit their job and ended as a content creators.
